    Add more meta data

    You can also build a reasonable idea of how many links you need, and how authoritative, in order to compete. To check out your competitors’ links, you can search for their most popular URLs with the link: command in Google. If you want to go further, use one of the many backlink tools to search for the most influential links – a good starting point is Open Link Profiler which gives you a lot of data for free. We all know that getting backlinks (a.k.a. inbound links) from trusted websites is a great way to give your website’s search rankings a boost. However, there’s also a dark side to backlinks. If Google suspects that there are spammy, low-quality sites linking to your site, your rankings could suffer. This is known as “negative SEO”.     Set a bare minimum expectation for what SEO can achieve

    Keyword research can turn into a useful ally, especially if you bear in mind that you don’t always need to target the most obvious keywords. With all the signals in the Google algorithm – and there are hundreds of them – why would links still be so valuable as a signal? Check to see if the domain is indexed by putting “site:example.com” in the Google search bar. If it is, that’s a good sign, but if it isn’t, it doesn’t necessarily mean that the domain was de-indexed due to a penalty. It might just have been out of commission for awhile, so Google felt it was not necessary to keep the site in its index.     In the past, commenting on blogs and forums solely for the sake of building links was the norm. The reality, however, is that many blogs and forums have little or no link value. Therefore, building links via this method will do nothing to boosting your website’s ranking. Using heading in your page structure can have a big impact on searchability. By putting out content, not only does it help you create brand awareness, foster relationships with customers and attract new ones, it also helps you stand out from the competition. A URL with a load of incomprehensible gibberish at the end is a lot less shareable and enticing than a short and simple SEO-friendly URL.
