Google has reduced the importance of keyword phrases and now places more importance on a variety of elements, appropriately called “on-page factors.” Every piece of content should have the user in mind. This also applies to SEO. You can’t create your next piece of content, or carry out keyword research, without knowing your audience. Old-school SEO focused on keywords. New-school SEO focuses on high click-through rates, “long clicks”, freshness, and amplification...which are all signals that users are successfully finding the answers they’re looking for in your content. Anchor text can affect how Google weighs up links to your site. If linking to your homepage and referring to your brand, anchor text should just say your website or brand name. Links to your homepage that are more descriptive “leading experts in local SEO” can be seen as manipulative, so you want to avoid this.

IncludE benefits in your subheadings

Social signals - how many times a piece of content is shared, tweeted and liked - have become a crucial part of the way search engines decide which content is the most useful and should be ranked higher. Search Console shows your average position for each of the keywords you rank for and how many impressions and clicks this brings you. The featured snippets that SEOs have been striving to get are a prime example of how voice search has changed SEO. Optimizing for these snippets requires old school SEO tactics combined with something new. Make it easier for search engines to index your website.

Take all the data you get

If you’ve been producing content in a haphazard manner, hoping and praying that some of it eventually ranks, it’s time to buckle down and commit to a more methodical SEO content strategy for the web. Link Building is arguably one of the easiest steps to Search Engine Optimization, since links don’t really need to be written or phrased in a certain way. Google follows links. Links are important. Make your site fast

Measuring how many visits your site gets, and analyzing the sources sending the most traffic, means you can see which content marketing and SEO strategies are getting you the best results. There's nothing like marketing in the minute. Picking the right keywords to optimize for is very important. Usually, it’s a good idea to pick mid-tail keywords, including the local area you are focusing on. A key lesson to apply to pretty much every aspect of SEO, is not to get carried away when you find ideas that work. For example, just because quality is key, that doesn’t mean that you need to disavow every low quality link and only ever build links from the top sites.

    Optimizing for local SEO means more than just making sure your location is clear. You can also use it to show opening hours, reviews and phone numbers (which smartphone users can click to instantly call). Start focusing on your visitors, on the people that want to buy your product or services. Link building refers to building credibility on your website by having your links appear on other web pages. What SEO specialists and strategists should be doing, instead of link building, is establishing relationships with local influencers and businesses. Your website should be designed with your visitor in mind. Nobody wants to wait a long time for a page to load, and slow site speeds will tempt visitors to visit a competitor’s page.

    The shorter the page title, the better

    The meta description is not a ranking factor, but it does play an important part in optimizing your Click Through Rate (CTR). Google’s SEO Starter Guide states that, “If your URL contains relevant words, this provides users and search engines with more information about the page than an ID or oddly named parameter would.” In other words, including keywords – or at least clear and direct information – in your URL is a best practice. The best way to get backlinks from other blogs and from social media sites is to write posts that are engaging and worth sharing. When it comes to out-competing competitor pages, you are going to have to look at what the top competing page is doing when it comes to main content text. Chances are – they have some unique text on the page

    Avoid SEO Attacks

    Google continues to use natural, quality inbound links as a main ranking factor. Adding links and information to a forum signature, for example, is a good way to quickly spread awareness about your website, especially if you post often on a specific forum. A site’s age has an influence on that site’s ranking. A site that has been around for a long time can be seen as more reputable. Plus, it gives Google a background in determining a site’s trustworthiness. Basically, site age lets Google know your site is legit. Google is far more capable of deciphering user intent and generating results that meet a user’s needs, rather than relying on one-to-one keyword matching.

    Earning links

    There are various ranking factors that influence whether a website appears higher on the SERP based on the content relevance to the search term, or the quality of backlinks pointing to the page. SEO projects require forethought and planning to obtain the best results, and SEO needs to be considered during, and incorporated into, all stages of a website development or redevelopment project. 99% of people don’t need any fancy tools or tactics. They just need to write the best content online for the topic they want to go after. According to SEO Consultant, Gaz Hall: "Brand mentions and co-citations are also very important to Google, in determining the quality and usefulness of a particular web page."

    High ROI

    A title tag is used by search engines to display a page in search results and can also be found at the top of your browser. Title tags tell search engines and searchers what the page is about. Google started penalizing mobile unfriendly sites in 2015. And they’re likely crack down even more in the future. If you want to make your site mobile-friendly, I recommend Responsive Design. The search engines tend to give pages with longer, more in-depth content a higher placement on SERPs. The more pages you have give you more of a chance to rank well for a more diverse set of keyword phrases: this should technically lead to more traffic from Google, Yahoo and Bing.

    Most people never click beyond the first page of results (which only shows 10 web pages), meaning there will be little/no traffic for those ranking in positions 11+. Therefore, simply being indexed won’t necessarily bring organic traffic. Content simply refers to the text on your homepage, your blog posts, videos you’ve produced, and any podcasts you’ve published. Focus on producing the best content you can – or pay someone to create it for you! Make it compelling, detailed, substantive, accurate and entertaining. Every time a search engine finds your website next to your competitors, it tells them that your company is in a related niche. Google normally takes into account bounce rate and the time spent on a site as ranking factors. If visitors are bouncing away due to navigation confusion and poor content structure, you can be sure that the search bots are too.

    The Importance of Keyword Reviews

    Ideally page titles should include the search term for which the website has been optimized. You want your company’s name to be one of the first results that they see. You have complete control over anchor text on your own website, and you should use it to your advantage. But you don’t really have control over what text people use on other websites. Learn to write good website copy and your Search Engine Optimization (SEO)—think of it as digital catnip for Google—will improve, as will your site ranking.     Dominate your own little niche first

    In document analysis, search engines look at whether they find the search terms in important areas of the document—the title, the metadata, the heading tags, and the body of the text. Google likes to pretend that great content, and great websites, will naturally acquire links. But for 99.999% of businesses, that’s terrible advice. Reacting to reviews appears to be a wise thing to do. That does not mean you should respond to every single review. In my opinion, you should react to negative reviews. Responding to negative reviews will show potential customers how you handle problems and solve solutions to dissatisfied customers. Search engines typically prioritize site titles, page titles, blog post titles, and headings. These titles also appear in browser tabs and search results, so it's important to write them so they’re friendly to both search bots and human readers.

    If your web developer tells you that the website is accessible from a mobile device, don’t just trust him/her. Go over your mobile website yourself and check if you, as a visitor, can do all you want and need to do there. Search engines no longer require you to spell things in order to rank, so your focus should be on writing for the people viewing your page instead. After all, time on page and other elements indicating your content was useful provide a stronger value for SEO. Duplicate content isn’t necessarily a bad or wrong thing, apart from in the above example where it’s just straight up theft. Keyword research is an entire sub-discipline within SEO and it’s easy to go down a rabbit hole.

    Make your site fast

    Create profiles for your business (and include a link to your website) on major directory sites such as Google My Business, Yelp, Angie’s List, Yellow Pages, and other listing resources associated with your industry. Before you publish, please proofread! Google doesn’t like spelling or grammar errors. Panda and Penguin are algorithm updates by Google, focused on serving more quality websites in their search result pages. Panda focuses on thin content and banners, among other things, where Penguin checks if the links to your website are natural links that make sense.

    Provide value information rooted in your initial strategy

    But here’s the thing: it takes time for search engines to discover (and index) new websites. Familiarize your content creators with basic SEO practices and ensure they work closely with the SEO team to create material that will rank as highly as possible from the moment of publication. Site speed, from the front end to the back end, is an often overlooked area of web development that also has SEO implications. Off-Page SEO is made up of everything away from your site that you technically can’t control (although, you can influence) and affects how Google sees your page (particularly how authoritative and trustworthy it sees your page).

    Types of Site Changes That Can Affect SEO

    The semantic analysis of a link’s value does go deeper than just the anchor text It’s also important to know what kinds of link-building strategies to avoid, so that you don’t waste your valuable time and effort doing something that can make Google sandbox your site (remove it from their search engine). SEO is alive and well, and its just as powerful as it ever was. According to SEO Consultant, Gaz Hall: "In the past, commenting on blogs and forums solely for the sake of building links was the norm. The reality, however, is that many blogs and forums have little or no link value. Therefore, building links via this method will do nothing to boosting your website’s ranking."

    Horses for courses

    Certain words present an ongoing challenge for the search engines. One of the greatest challenges comes in the form of disambiguation. All Javascript and CSS files on your site must be unblocked. That means Google must be able to access those files so that it can see the site as a normal visitor does. Automatic redirects and rewrites help search engines understand when you've made changes or moved pages on your site. SEO practitioners, before deploying any given tactic, will ask first, “Will this increase my rank in the SERPs?” And if the answer appears to be yes, then the tactic is executed.

    Quality will win over quantity every time and your results will not be nearly as fruitful if you’re putting out mediocre content. As other search engines become the default Web browsers instead of Google, it makes sense to optimize for those search engines as well. Link Building adds a level of credibility to your website which just isn’t present without those links to reliable information sources backing up whatever claims you’re making back on your own website. Everyone knows not to trust everything they read on the Internet, but finding other sites saying the same things sure doesn’t hurt. Strategically written website copy includes well-thought-out internal links and calls to action.

    Examine your existing content

    You want a user to click your result in Google, and not need to go back to Google to do the same search that ends with the user pogo-sticking to another result, apparently unsatisfied with your page. Google historically has looked for ‘exact match’ instances of keyword phrases on documents and SEO have, historically, been able to optimise successfully for these keyword phrases – whether they are grammatically correct or not. All Javascript and CSS files on your site must be unblocked. That means Google must be able to access those files so that it can see the site as a normal visitor does. Use search engine friendly permalinks. Try not to have too many ‘&’, ‘?’, ‘!’ etc characters in the URL. Sometimes it is unavoidable but try to keep it to a minimum.

    Bad content truly can do long-lasting damage to your website, brand and business. Search engines display page titles in their search results. Check forums, online communities and Q&A sites to find the questions people in your niche are asking.     Even though Google search is not the be all and end all to business, having a site that ranks well for commonly searched for key terms helps greatly. Once you create your blog, stick to the same domain for as long as you continue to publish. You could end up losing a lot of your organic traffic, your readers and all your search engine listings if you decide to move or change your domain and URLs. If you have not done any link building, or have been stuck in the link building tactics of a bygone era, you’re missing out on a lot of potential search engine power. The best link building strategies take more time and effort and are focused on building relationships and providing valuable information, not gathering the most links possible. SEO can be quite complicated, but you can absolutely develop a keyword strategy and take care of the essentials on your own.

    Build backlinks

    Start as you mean to go on: titles are the best places to get started with SEO. Regardless of what the search engines think, a snappy, relevant title will help attract readers on any platform. Keywords are less often used nowadays as the first signal to indicate what your post is about, but they are still helpful to offer an overview of the topic you’re focusing on. Some of the pages on your website might not be linked to any other page. These are referred to as “orphaned pages,” and if a bot finds such a page, it is forced to abort the crawl since bots can only move from link to link. SEO is about providingvalue, not tricking search engines into ranking you higher. How powerful is your domain name? How well does it rank in those all-important search engines? The measure of your domain name’s power is called “domain authority,” and it depends on three general factors: size, age, and popularity. Rankings in SEO refers to a website’s position in the search engine results page.

    If you make sure people want to visit your site, have great calls-to-action and prepare for mobile, you're already on your way to a well-optimized website, the holistic way! Your keyword list should be a living document that you check and update at least once a month.     Keep Your Content Simple

    Google's web indexing system favors recently updated content, especially for time-sensitive searches. Internal linking is  the  process of linking one page to another on your site. This is done in a few ways, including your navigation menu, sidebar links, and links inside the page content to other pages on your site. When content is optimized for SEO before it goes live on the web, it will be ready for searchers and rank higher on the SERP from the moment of publication. Work with Google to provide your users with the most relevant, well-informed and entertaining answers to their questions. Prove that you are trustworthy by connecting as closely as possible to high authority sites.
